Day 2 – Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine – Star-Spangled Banner Flag House -Lunch at Inner Harbor – Harbor Cruise – Dinner at Hard Rock Cafe– Baltimore Ghost Tour
This morning, start with a visit to Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine. Your visit here begins with a dramatic multi-media presentation and Flag Raising Ceremony. Fort McHenry is a historical American coastal pentagonal bastion fort on Locust Point, now a neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. It is best known for its role in the War of 1812, when it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from an attack by the British navy from the Chesapeake Bay on September 13–14, 1814. The Fort’s successful defense during the Battle of Baltimore in 1814 inspired Francis Scott Key to write of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Next, visit the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House. The Flag House is dedicated to preserving the story of Mary Young Pickersgill, craftswoman of the Star-Spangled Banner. At the Flag House, you’ll encounter the historic house furnished to an approximate 1813 appearance, learn about the women in Mary’s household that helped craft the most famous flag to ever fly, and discover how the historic house has acted as a cornerstone of the Jonestown community for more than 220 years.
Next, head to the Inner Harbor where you will enjoy an included lunch at a local restaurant.
This afternoon, enjoy an interactive tour and sightseeing cruise from the Inner Harbor! See the sites and enjoy an animated narration of Baltimore’s rich history. This sightseeing tour includes Baltimore’s historic Inner Harbor, the best views of storied sites such as the USS Constellation, Fells Point, the National Aquarium, the John W. Brown Liberty Ship, and more. Enjoy engaging narration throughout the cruise.
Dinner is included this evening at the Hard Rock Café. After dinner, enjoy a Baltimore Ghost Tour. Baltimore’s Mount Vernon, the city’s cultural center, may be more “spirited” than you think. Admire the architecture while tour guides regale you with the history and haunted lore of this striking neighborhood that was home to many of Baltimore’s leading citizens on the Mt Vernon Ghost Tour. Hear about those who have never checked out of the Belvedere, a séance gone wrong, and more than one grand dame who still oversees the activities of her home. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – USS Constellation Tour – National Aquarium w/Program – Maryland Science Center w/Program – Toby’s Dinner Theater or Orioles Baseball Game
This morning, visit The USS Constellation, a sloop-of-war, the last sail-only warship designed and built by the United States Navy. She was built in 1854, using a small amount of material salvaged from the frigate USS Constellation, which had been disassembled the year before. She is now preserved as a museum ship in Baltimore, Maryland, and is a National Historic Landmark. Enjoy a walking tour that includes demonstrations and one hands-on activity: Bracing the Yards. This tour examines the purpose, design, and construction of sailing warships and focuses on those aspects of Constellation’s build that make her uniquely suited for the role she played.
Next, visit the National Aquarium. Thousands of Animals. Hundreds of Species. One Aquarium. Experience dozens of unique aquatic habitats—from a northern Australian river gorge to an Indo-Pacific reef to a tropical rain forest—all interconnected by the binding force of water. Learn about animals from all over our blue planet—from the depths of the ocean to the canopy of the rain forest—and discover the connection they all share with water.
An Educational Program is included with your visit. The Program could feature scientific investigation, hands-on discovery, structured lab activities, presentations and live animal encounters. A boxed lunch is also included today with your visit.
This afternoon, visit the Maryland Science Center. Science gets super fun at the Maryland Science Center, an interactive and educational destination featuring three levels of exhibits exploring subjects such as astronomy, paleontology, the human body and physics. Located in the Inner Harbor, the center also features live demonstrations, the Davis Planetarium, an IMAX theater, and a rooftop observatory where you can explore the night sky.
An Educational Program will be included today with your visit to the Science Center. Hands-on exhibits and electrifying demonstrations will help bring classroom concepts to life.
End the day with dinner and a show at Toby’s Dinner Theatre. Baltimore’s and Washington’s only professional dinner theater in the round is critically acclaimed, featuring a lavish buffet and spectacular musicals with eight shows weekly.
Or groups could add a Baltimore Orioles Baseball Game instead with dinner at the ballpark. (B,L,D)
Day 4 – Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum – Depart for Home
After breakfast, visit the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum. If you’re a train aficionado, you’ll love to visit the B&O Museum with the largest collection of 19th century locomotives in the country. The collection is housed in the original, eye-catching roundhouse built in 1884. The museum collects artifacts related to early American railroading, Baltimore & Ohio (America’s first commercial railroad), Chesapeake & Ohio, Western Maryland, and other Mid-Atlantic rail systems. See, touch, and explore all kinds of items and hop on the Mile One Express, a 20-minute roundtrip train ride along the first commercial mile of railroad track, laid in 1830.
Groups wanting more in-depth learning can add The Underground Railroad: Freedom Seekers on the B&O Railroad exhibit.
Lunch will be included today at the Museum before departing for home. (B,L)
