Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive Florida City/Homestead
This is a travel day and will be modified based on your arrival time. The first two evenings of this tour you overnight in the Florida City/ Homestead area. Groups arriving early enough will make a visit to Biscayne National Park Visitors Center, see the Boca Chica Lighthouse and the Convoy Point Jetty Walk before a Cracker Barrel Dinner. (D)
Day 2 – Everglades National Park – Shark Valley Tram Tour – Airboat Ride – Pizza Pool Party
Today is set aside for eco-touring in the northern section of Everglades National Park. Starting with the Ernest Coe Visitors Center and the Anihinga Trail where a naturalist guide you will teach you about the diversity of flora and fauna in different eco-systems: freshwater sloughs, marl prairies, tropical hammocks, pinelands, cypress, mangrove, coastal lowlands, marine, and estuarine.
Also included today is a highly educational tour on the Shark Valley Tram. At the halfway point on this adventure, you can walk to the highest accessible point in Everglades National Park, the viewing platform of the Shark Valley Observation Tower.
Also, this afternoon is an exciting ride on an airboat. You’ll zip through Cypress Forests, past mangroves and see wildlife up close while the eco-lesson continues.
Ending the tour, you make a fun stop at a fruit stand, petting zoo and aviary that serves milkshakes (included).
You then return to the hotel for an evening by the pool with pizza. (B,D)
Day 3 – Feed the Tarpon – Dolphin Research Center – The Turtle Hospital – Florida Keys Snorkeling
Driving the Overseas Highway south into the Keys, your first stop is a place called Robbies in Islamorada where you can feed the Tarpon, shop for Island Art and Souvenirs.
Next is the Dolphin Research Center in Grassy Key. This facility is home to a pod of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions that live in a natural lagoon setting in the Gulf of Mexico.
Then it’s on to Marathon for a visit to the Turtle Hospital, the only Certified Hospital for turtles in the world. You’ll get a behind the scenes look, an education talk and hear about the rehabilitated animals these good people help every year.
This afternoon you will visit Bahia Honda State Park for a snorkeling to the Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary. Featuring one of the most spectacular reefs in the Florida Keys. Then you check-in to a Marathon, FL hotel, for two nights. Dinner is at a seafood restaurant. (B,D)
Day 4 – Key West Sightseeing – Mallory Square – Conch Train – Truman White House – Margaritaville
This morning your focus is on Key West, America’s Southernmost City. On arrival, you board the Conch Train for a narrated city tour through the picturesque streets as they reveal the treasures that have and still do make Key West the magical island basking in the Caribbean sun.
That ends at Mallory Square for a lunch break and shopping.
Then there’s a visit to Harry Truman’s Little White House. History has left its mark on this building since 1890 when it initially served as the command headquarters during the Spanish American War, World War I and World War II. In 1946 the historic building first served as the winter White House of President Harry S. Truman and a site for the Cold War response by later presidents. Today, the Truman Little White House is a public, living history museum as well as a retreat and place of government business by our nation’s leaders.
Dinner tonight is included at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant. Then you return to Marathon for the night. (B,D)
Day 5 – Departure
Following breakfast your group will depart for home. (B)
