Day 2 – Guided Capitol Hill Tour – US Capitol Visitors Center – Union Station Lunch – White House Photo Op – Ford’s Theatre – Dinner at Hard Rock Café
After breakfast, meet your local guide for a full day of touring. Start the day with a visit to the Capitol Visitors Center. At nearly 580,000 square feet, the CVC is the largest project in the Capitol’s 215-year history and is approximately three quarters the size of the Capitol itself. The entire facility is located underground on the east side of the Capitol so as not to detract from the appearance of the Capitol. Features include an exhibition gallery highlighting the House and Senate while in-session, orientation theaters and a 550-seat cafeteria.
Then visit the United States Capitol (pending availability) the most recognized symbol of democratic government in the world. The U.S. Capitol has housed Congress since 1800 and is one of the most imposing public buildings in the world. Next, your guide will lead you on a tour of the Supreme Court Building (outside only). Within the walls of this white marble monument, the third branch of government exercises its mandate to protect and interpret the spirit of the Constitution.
Lunch will be included today at Union Station, one of the most iconic destinations in Washington, D.C. You will receive a lunch voucher good at any of the restaurants located in the Food Court.
The afternoon will feature a photo stop at the White House before heading to Ford’s Theatre. The site of the April 14, 1865, assassination of President Lincoln, Ford’s Theatre holds a unique place in United States history. The theatre has enthralled millions of visitors since its reopening in 1968, and it is one of the most visited sites in the nation’s capital.
End the day with dinner at the Hard Rock Café. (B,L,D)
